Well, that's what we asked ourselves at first too. You suddenly have so many things going through your head.
You start the search for information on the Internet without organization and after two hours 100 pages are open in the browser and you no longer have a clear view.
But at least you have a rough overview.

We read about people who had done something like this before. Or from those who were still on their way.

Some have given up their entire homes and have been traveling the world for years.
We also don't want to go into great and all-encompassing detail about the organization; this information is readily available on the web.

Our journey was to last just over four months.
The most important criterion for us was that we only travel with a small backpack as hand luggage.

Only the bare essentials were packed. Since we have no destination on our route where you need warm clothes, we only took light things with us, except for one hoodie per person. Because when we come back, it will probably be quite cold in Germany.
It can also be the case that you often freeze on bus trips because the air condition is too icy. So we just accept taking such a space-consuming piece of clothing with us.

We have to visit a laundry about once a week.
Our two backpacks together weigh less than 15 kg. 

We read about people on the internet starting their planning a year in advance and wondered if we needed to do the same.

It quickly became clear that this didn't seem necessary for us.
Everyone should organize it in their own way.

We also wondered whether we should buy a round-the-world ticket for cost reasons, but then decided not to do it.
Because of the Corona situation at the time, we were too tied to the chosen itinerary and the entry regulations of various countries would often have been inconvenient for us.
The situation is now relatively relaxed and all countries on our route no longer require a Covid test.

Bring on the syringes!

About six weeks before the start of the trip we went to our family doctor and surprised her with our travel plans and explained that we still needed the necessary vaccinations.
She then clasped her hands over her head and her face turned pale.
We should have come much earlier, she said.

Nevertheless: Hats off, dear doctor!!!

Despite the lack of time, she had drawn up an ingenious vaccination plan for us and we received all the necessary injections from her before we left;
including long overdue boosters to basic immunization.

Brilliantly solved!

We put a sign on the mailbox saying that advertising and free newspapers are not allowed. We have unsubscribed from the senders of advertising mail addressed to us.
Grandma Moni collects the rest of the mail, and if there is an invoice among them, Grandma takes a photo and sends it to us for online banking.

We had booked the first flight to Thailand in February 2022, as well as a domestic flight in Thailand and a flight from Bangkok to Phnom Penh.

In addition, the booking of the first four nights in Phuket was done.

We had roughly determined the itinerary in advance. It would probably change as the tour progressed.

As a means of payment, we have two VISA debit cards, which have been regularly credited about a year and a half before. We also have a Mastercard and an Amex card with us.
Not to forget the approximately 800 US dollars that were left over from our last trip to the USA.
We won't be able to use them until we get to Ecuador at the earliest...
         We´ll see...

All in all, that's about it, except for a few other little things.

Everything else is done on the go.
